APPLY! APPLY! APPLY!
Now is the time to begin applying to the top schools on your list of possible colleges for next year! To apply, go to the college’s website and look under undergraduate admissions for the Application for Admissions. Most colleges have an application form that can be filled out online or printed off to be mailed. Some colleges require a fee to apply; some do not. Once you have applied, let Mrs. Lorie Stein know. Many colleges want a copy of your high school transcript and ACT scores, if available. Mrs. Stein can send that information to the college for you. If you have taken any college courses through DCCC, you will have to fill out a request to have that transcript sent to the college as well. Those forms are available on DCCC website, www.dc3.edu. Look for the transcript request form under the “Information and Resources” tab.
Scholarships - Once you have received an acceptance letter from the college, it is important to begin the scholarship search at that college. You can do so by going to the financial aid department of the college’s website. Look for the word, “Scholarships”. Don’t waste time, as the deadlines for many of the priority scholarships may be as early as October. Check your college’s website for all scholarship deadlines.

Visit - Don’t forget to make a visit to your top colleges. Call the Admissions Department to set up a time. It is a good idea to call ahead of time, usually 2 weeks if possible. If you will miss school on the day of your visit, be sure to have a completed College Visit Form turned in to the office before you go. The forms are available in the office.
What Else?????
References - Generate a list of people from teachers, coaches, counselors, and employers. Ask at least five from the list if they would be willing to write you a good letter of recommendation for scholarship or work opportunities yet to come. Be sure to give them enough time to write a good letter. I recommend at least 2 weeks.
List of Activities - Begin creating a list of the activities you have been involved in during high school. Include those activities you have been involved with through school and your community. Also include any honors or recognition you have received as a result of your efforts in these activities. You may need such a list when applying for scholarships and/or when creating a resume for work.
