College Goal Sunday
February 10, 2009
College Goal Sunday is the answer for high school students and
parents who are concerned that the economy and rising tuition could
prevent them from continuing their education.
College Goal Sunday is an event that can help high school students
get the money they need to attend college. The event, 2-4 p.m.,
February 8, 2009, will give students across Kansas, one-on-one
assistance filling out the required Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
³Completing the FAFSA is the gateway to funding a college education
and almost as necessary as completing a college application,² said
David Duncan, College Goal Sunday Kansas chairperson. ³We hold this
event annually to ease the burden for students and families, so
attendance needs to be a priority for all high school seniors.²
The event is free and open to all high school students who wish to
attend college but do not know how they will finance their studies.
Each student who attends the event will be eligible to win a $500
scholarship. This year, College Goal Sunday will distribute four
scholarships at 20 site locations across Kansas.
To facilitate completion of financial aid applications, students
and their parents should bring their 2008 tax return form and their
W-2 forms.
Students may attend even without their parents or tax information.
Please visit www.CollegeGoal.org
<http://www.collegegoal.org/> to find the closest location
near your high school, as well as additional information about the
event. Students can sign up for a College Goal Sunday cell phone
reminder by texting ³CGS² to 25827.
This year, the U.S. Department of Education will provide more than
$83 billion to help millions of students and families pay for
postsecondary education. College Goal Sunday makes applying for
financial aid easier, easing the journey of many high school
students wishing to attend college.
