Connie Heskamp - At Risk Aid
I grew up in Medicine Lodge, Kansas and lived there all through my school years. After graduating from high school, I attended Pratt Community College for two years and was a starter on the women’s basketball team. I then went to Kansas State University for a year. This is where I met my husband, Jeff, who is a Spearville native. Jeff returned to the family farm after graduating from KSU in 1988 and he continues to farm today. I moved to Dodge City in 1989 and we were married in 1992. We have lived in Spearville since then, and now we have 3 children, Lindsey, Luke, and Alissa who attend Spearville schools.
After working for Feist/Yellowbook for 11 years and getting laid off from my job, I chose to go back to college and get my business education degree. I am currently taking online classes from Fort Hays State University and hope to graduate in the Fall of 2010.
This is my second year working at Spearville Middle School as a paraprofessional. I have gained all confidence that this is the career that I want to be in. Working with the kids has made me realize the importance of having good role models in their lives and that is what I want to be. If I can make a difference in the life of even one kid, then I have made an important accomplishment in my life.
I will continue to coach middle school girl’s basketball and middle school track this year. I have enjoyed every minute of it, and hope that my experience as a coach and teacher continues to grow in the future.
In my spare time, you will find me following our kids in their many activities. I enjoy watching most sports at all levels, especially college football and basketball. I love to take pictures and spend much of my time scrap booking.
