The Spearville Lancer forensics’ team headed to Southwestern Heights for the season opener on Thursday, January 26. The evening ended with Nicole Brauer and Stephanie Kolbeck taking second place in duet acting and qualifying for State Champs. Stephanie also placed second in extemporaneous speaking and also qualified for State Champs in that event, as well. Kolten Cox, a freshman on the team, came in sixth in extemp. Other team members competing were: Britany Harper, Ashley Kreger, Brittany Palmberg, Allison VanNahmen, and Taylor Ricke.

Early on Saturday, January 28 a small Lancer squad of four travelled to Satanta for the Indian Invitational. Students competing were: Byrum Bittell in prose and extemporaneous speaking; Ashley Kreger and Britany Harper in duet acting and prose; and Stephanie Kolbeck in original oration and extemporaneous speaking. Stephanie placed sixth in extemp. We would like to extend a special thank-you to Joey Stroud (2006 SHS graduate) for travelling with us and judging.

Kinsley Novice
The Kinsley Coyote Novice Tournament was Thursday, February 9. Finalists from the Spearville Forensics team were: Blake Price second in poetry and qualified for State Festival. Kolten Cox took fifth in poetry and fifth in extemporaneous speaking while Taylor Ricke landed sixth place in extemporaneous speaking. Other team members competing were Britany Harper and Ashley Kreger both in duet acting and in prose. We want to extend special thanks to Nicole Brauer and Stephanie Kolbeck for judging and to Allison VanNahmen for team cheerleader extraordinaire.

Pratt
It was a bone-chilling start on the morning of February 11, but after a slippery and snowy start, the SHS forensics team arrived at the Pratt Greenback Invitational. Taylor Ricke performed in prose and in extemporaneous speaking and Ashley Kreger competed in prose and poetry. Breaking into finals were Blake Price who took sixth in poetry; Nicole Brauer placed fifth in informative speaking; and Allison VanNahmen secured third place in prose and qualified for State Champs. We would like to extend a special thank-you to Sondra Stroud for driving and Jolene Brauer for team support. Also, thanks to Kevin Stroud for making a surprise appearance; it was great to see you!
